Future Implications

Social Media Marketing is constantly growing with more and more platforms popping up. There are still some very popular social media outlets that dominate the social media world, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. These three platforms are great for getting your brand recognized and increasing the traffic flow to your main website and essentially main business location. Twitter is a social media site that is flowing constantly, sometimes I feel like your tweet can get lost in the “twitterverse”. However, “Twitter enables marketers to personify brands and help build and maintain consumer relationships by engaging in conversations” (Eun Sook, K., & Yongjun, S. 2011). I use Twitter when creating online promotional posts for my company, I find it helpful to connect to other local businesses and create relationships. Our company can benefit from networking with other businesses in the same geographic location. Their followers will be able to see their connection to us which can create a sense of trust.

One implication of social media marketing is keeping up with society, keeping your business up to date and up to speed with the ever-changing social networks. “Currently, Twitter has nearly 200 million registered users and processes more than 110 million tweets per day-averaging nearly 1,300 tweets per second” (2011). This is why monitoring tools are gaining popularity for businesses; marketers need to identify potential problems and opportunities that surround their business. These tools are more appropriate for large corporations compared to my place of work, which is a local flooring store. We have followers but still do not need to purchase monitoring equipment. We currently use Google Analytics which tells us who is looking at our website and where they are coming from. It also identifies our most popular pages, having this information makes it easier to identify the least popular pages and improve them. Implications due to Facebook that I have seen arise are issues when it comes to “work life” and “personal lives” for example:“High-level executives are not immune from employment discipline and even termination for social media misuse ”(Hidy, K. M., & E. McDonald, M. S. 2013).
